Electric bill defaulter poor BCB

DHAKA: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) might have dealt with crores of taka business. But, it’s a poor organization in terms of paying electricity bills.

The poverty made BCB an electricity bill defaulter compelling Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) Monday to cut the line of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium where the BCB office is also situated.

Officials said that the Home of Cricket in Mirpur got disconnected from electric line following non-payment of a bill amounting to about Tk 2.0 crore.

The BCB however could restore the line within one-and-half-hour following payment of Tk 10 lakh against the defaulted power bills.

It is not first time that the BCB defaulted and got disconnected from DESCO electricity.

A similar disruption took place last year when the DESCO disconnected BCB’s line to realise dues.

BCB again experienced the same shame only days after glorious hosting of ICC World T20 Tournament.

According to the DESCO officials, the BCB defaulted some Tk 1.93 crore and its officials were compelled to cut the line of the prestigious sports organisation.

BCB however woke up immediately after the disconnection and paid Tk 10 lakh to get electricity again from around 2.15pm.
