West Indies 247/7 (Chris Gayle 58, DM Bravo 53, LMP Simmons 40, D Ramdin 34, Mashrafee 3/39, Al-Amin Hossain 2/60) beat Bangladesh all Out 70 in 24.4 Overs ( Tamim Iqbal 37 , Narine 3/13 ,Roach 3/19 ,Rampaul 2/21) by 177 runs.
Toothless tigers crushed to yet another miserable defeat as West Indies punished them with a massive 177 runs thumping in the second ODI taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in three match ODI series.
Bangladesh replying to a reasonable West Indian set target of 248 on a rain soaked sluggish wicket got blown away scoring only 70 runs. Bangladesh lost the first ODI by 3 wickets. Down and out Tigers may get brown washed as we find no hope with this miserable team poorly coached and diabolically managed. All good advices of not playing four openers in ODI, not persisting ordinary quality Raid were not paid heed to too. Not giving opportunity to rookie pacer Taskin another opportunity backfired. With the series already lost Bangladesh think tank can only now rue their mistakes. The prospect of redeeming even seems unlikely and more humiliation seems to be coming in T20 and Test series. What was Bangladesh game or I wonder if there was any? The way Bangladesh batted we wonder if they could even score the 177 remaining runs if given opportunity to bat one more time.
The logic of playing four genuine openers in ODI could not be supported. The allegation of favoring underperforming Riad appears to have genuine basis. Genuine lapses and mistakes of team think tank again made the team pay dearly. I agree with our friend Zahid Nawaz Jewel that every ODI now is a preparation for world Cup. Hence now giving opportunity to Teenage sensation Taskin is a genuine mistake.
West Indies did not blaze or blast in their innings. But they played to their strength. Top order which misfired in the first match contributed excepting Edwards. Gayle and Darren Bravo scored fifties. Simmons and Ramdin also contributed. A score of 247 proved more than enough for pathetic Bangladesh team on a sluggish wicket.
Mushfique won the toss and put West Indies in to exploit whatever moisture the wicket might have had from pre match rain. Bangladesh made one change from the first match replacing rookie pacer Taskin with veteran left arm spinner Razzak. West Indies was unchanged, and they wanted the top order to put together a good start. Captain Dwayne Bravo was hoping to put a total of at least 250 on board. Captains hope of a 250 was almost achieved which Cricinfo wrote required huffing and puffing. Four of the five top orders put together 185 runs. Gayle played a characteristic flamboyant innings of 53 with 3 fours and 5 sixes, while stylist left hander DM Bravo scored 53. Only two partnerships prospered the second wicket between Gayle and Bravo put together 88 and then Bravo and Ramdin in the fourth wicket added 51. Again Bangladeshi pacers evergreen Mashrafee and Al-Amin bowled with discipline putting the ball in the right place and curbing the free flowing scoring skills of the Caribbean. Praises for fighter Mashrafee may not be enough. How brilliantly he served his country with another spell of witty performance giving away less than 4 runs per over and grabbed the wickets of Simmons, Pollard and captain Bravo in the process. Al Amin was a bit expensive as he grabbed 2/60 but made early inroads through knocking Edwards out in his very first over. Three spinners gave away 137 runs in 30 overs taking only 2 wickets. While Mashrafee picked Bravo and Simmons in the 49th over Al Amin was blasted for 14 runs in his last over. Narine and Holder heaved two sixes.
Bangladesh started poorly losing 3 wickets within the first 10 overs for 43 .The next ten overs were even worse Between 15th – 20th over in 32 balls the lost five wickets for only 10 runs, a sorry spectacle for Bangladesh fans at home who are staying up past midnight and for us in down under losing early morning sleep on week end. Anamul, Kayes, Shamsur Rahman. Mushfique, Riad, Nasir all played like novice school kids. Only resistance came from Tamim playing some delightful strokes. But he too failed to shoulder his team. Roach, Narine and Rampaul shared 8 wickets amongst them. Bangladesh could not even complete half of their allotted overs. A miserable loss by 177 runs caused them lose the series. Three of the four openers together contributed only 12 runs. Ten of the 11 players together could contribute 38 with no one reaching double figure. We wonder what more Tigers can do to put the nation to shame. Will BCB own responsibility and do soul searching?
