DHAKA: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) reduced three years ban of Mohammad Ashraful from eight-year in corruption in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The disciplinary panel of the BCB reduced the punishment on Monday, with the last two years suspended.

Earlier, the former Bangladesh captain had appealed to the disciplinary panel chief in July, asking that the ban he received a month earlier, for his involvement in match and spot-fixing in the 2013 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, be reduced, reports the espncricinfo.com.

Following the appeal, on the day, a statement from Justice Mohammad Abdur Rashid, chairman of the disciplinary panel of the BCB, said, “The sanction issued on July 7, 2013 is set aside. A period of ineligibility for five years commencing from 13 August 2013 is imposed upon the appellant with the credit that is available to him under article 6.4 of the Code and last two years is suspended subject to his participation in the anti-corruption education and training program to be organized by BCB and/or ICC and would be entitled to return to cricket on or about 13 August 2016 upon production of a certificate of good conduct from ICC.”

Nevertheless, Ashraful would still have to cough up the fine of 1 million Bangladeshi takas.

Bangladesh cricketing superstar was banned from all cricketing activities for eight years on grounds of fixing during the Bangladesh Premier League in 2013.

The 30-year-old Ashraful, who was found guilty on four charges, was also asked to pay a fine of Tk 10 lakh to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
