DHAKA: One Day International (ODI) Captain of Bangladesh National Cricket Team Mashrafe Mortaza on Thursday said they want to play better in the upcoming would cup.

“We want to play till the final but our real target is to play at least in the quarter final,” he said.

The Bangladesh captain came up with the assertion while talking to journalists at a press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium of Mirpur in the city.

Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was also present at the press meet.

He added: “It will be possible if we can play according to our potentiality. We are capable of reaching in the quarter final level.”

Bangladesh cricket team will leave the country for Australia on January 24 to take part in the ICC World Cup 2015.

Bangladesh will play against England, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Scotland in the pool A in the World Cup.

In response to a question Mortaza said, “We do not want to have plans against any particular team as this brings the team under unnecessary pressure on that day. Rather, we are thinking match by match.”

However, he also put emphasis on winning the first game against Afghanistan on February 18 saying, “Many things will become easier if we win the first game. We also will understand the requirements of next matches.”

In response to another question about the spin department the captain said, “It is not possible to ponder on the team combination now. But, looking at the Big Bash League of this year, it can be said that the spinners will have a huge role to play in the Australian and New Zealand conditions.”

He also said he did not fix any personal target rather the team’s performance was his first priority.
