Kiwis beat Pakistan by 7-wicket

DHAKA: New Zealand won the first ODI of the two-match series against Pakistan by seven wickets chasing an easy total of 211 runs on Saturday with more than 10 overs remaining at Wellington.

Grant Elliott scored 64 not out and took 3-26 in an all-round performance, which led black caps to the seven-wicket win.

Shahidi Afridi scored 67 off 29 balls and captain Misbah-ul-Haq made a half-century in an otherwise poor batting performance by Pakistan.

The early losses set the stage for Misbah and Afridi's strange double act.

Misbah was dismissed in the 42nd over, attempting to launch Elliott into the deep-midwicket stand.

Afridi continued to live dangerously, and was caught on the long-on boundary. Pakistan were all out in the 46th over.

Elliot was nominated the man of the match for his three wickets and unbeaten 64.

The second ODI of the two-match ODI series, which NZ now lead 1-0, will be played on February 3, 2015 at Napier.
