Rain halts post-lunch play

DHAKA: The post-lunch play of day three of one-off Test match between Bangladesh and India is halted due to rain at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah in Narayanganj on Friday afternoon.

Earlier in the morning session, Bangladesh took three wickets of India after the visitors resumed their rain-interrupted first innings batting.

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma while young leg spinner Jubair Hossain took the wicket of Virat Kohli.

Dhawan, Sharma and Kohli scored 173, 6 and 14-runs before returning pavilion. Currently, Vijay and Rahane are at the crease with 144 and 46-run respectively. India scored 398-run for three after 93-over.

Earlier, rain interrupted the first day’s play while heavy rain washed out the play on the second day of the lone test match.

On Wednesday, despite having 34 overs lost due to rain interruption and bad light, India scored 239 runs with no loss at stumps on Day-1.

Shikhar Dhawan bounced back with a very aggressive unbeaten 150. Murali Vijay was also solid with his 89 not out. The pair scored their second 200-run opening partnership.

India with the advantage of bowling last on this wicket has its grip very firm on the test.

Meanwhile, met office on Friday said light to moderate rain/thunder showers is likely to occur in Dhaka and its neighbourhood area in the day.

The rainfall occurred as trough of low lies over North West Bay and Southwest and monsoon has advanced up to central part of Bangladesh, according to sources of met office.
