DHAKA: Argentina have progressed into the quarterfinals of the special centenary edition of Copa America tournament beating Panama by five goals to nil.

Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick off the bench as the Albiceleste cruise past the 10-man Canaleros to book their place in the knockout stage.

Nicolás Hernán Otamendi scored the first goal in the 7th minute of the match. Di Maria places the free-kick onto the head of the centre-half, who sends a glancing header past Penedo at the far post.

In the 31st minute of the match, Panama became a 10-man team as referee showed Red Aníbal Cesis Godoy the second yellow card as he lashed out at Gaitan, slapping the winger in the face.

Messi scored three goals in the 68th, 78th and 87th minutes of the match.

Later, in the final minute of the match, Sergio Agüero scored the fifth goal of the match.
