DHAKA: Visiting South Africa have beaten Australia in their backyard in the second test match by 80 runs and an innings to clinch the ongoing 3-match series at Bellerive Oval, Hobart on Tuesday (November 15).
This was South Africa’s third straight Test series win in Australia. Their seamers produced a masterclass on swing and seam on the fourth morning, exposing Australia’s weak defensive technique again.
The visitors managed to add only 40-run with their overnight score of 121 for 2. They lost last eight wickets for 32. Earlier in the first innings, Australia lost 10 for 85. The hosts have been battered inside seven sessions.
Kyle Abott picked up six wickets while Kagiso Rabada took four wickets in the second innings.
Earlier, South Africa captain Faff du Plessis won the toss and invited Australia to bat first under a gloomy sky. The hosts scored a meager 85-run losing all their wickets. Vernon Philander picked up five wickets while Abbott and Rabada took three and one wicket respectively.
In reply, South Africa amass 326-run losing all wickets in their rain affected first innings. Whole second day was washed away. Quinton de Kock scored his second century while Temba Bavuma scored 74 runs.
Trailing by 241-run in their second innings, Aussies could manage only 161-run. Usman Khawaja, David Warner and captain Steven Smith scored 64, 45 and 31 runs. None could reach the double figure in the second innings.
Kyle Abbott was adjudged as the Player of the Match.
