Can The Tigers Roar?

It is all set for a prestigious ICC Champions trophy 2017. The prestigious eight top ranked ICC full member countries will appear in ODI contest from June 1, 2017 in England.

Divided in two groups A and B the teams would play against each other in round robin league before two teams from each group would knock out stage. The Groups are
Group A: Australia, Bangladesh, England and New Zealand
Group B: India, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh playing wonderful ODI cricket since ICC world cup 2015 elevated its ranking from 9 to 7 for storming into the tournament. On the highway of achievement, it white washed Pakistan, won against India and South Africa by identical margin of 2-1 and white washed Zimbabwe. Bangladesh beat England in the World Cup in Adelaide in 2015 and won a match against them in bilateral series in 2017.Bangladesh also drew the series with Sri Lanka 1-1. The only series they failed was in New Zealand where they were white washed. But all matches excepting the first of the three were well contested. Bangladesh is above Zimbabwe, West Indies and Pakistan in ICC ODI ranking. With a well-balanced team comprising of some very experienced seniors and exceptionally talented youngsters Bangladesh is tagged as the dark horse of the tournament.
BCB has already announced the squad of 15. The squad has little surprise. The only one which may be contested is preferring untested Sunzamul over tried and tested Nasir Hossain. Nasir remains stand by and can only get in if anyone of the Sqaud gets injured.
Bangladesh: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (Captain) , Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar , Imrul Kayes,Mushfiqur Rahim( Wicket Keeper) , Mahmudullah Riad , Shakib Al Hasan , Sabbir Rahman , Mosaddek Hossain, Mehedi Hasan, Sunzamul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shafiul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman
Matches Schedule:
Bangladesh VS England at the Oval on June 1, 2017
Bangladesh Vs Australia at Oval on June 5, 2017
Bangladesh Vs New Zealand at Cardiff on June 9, 2017
Let us have a view of other squads that has been announced. Australia and South Africa already announced the squad. England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have not done yet.
Australia: Steven Smith (Captain), David Warner, Pat Cummins , Aaron Flinch, John Hastings, Josh Hazelwood , Travis Head, Moeses Henriques, Chris Lyn, Glen Maxwell , James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Mathhew Wade (Wicket Keeper) and Adam Zampa
South Africa: AB de Villiers (Captain), Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock (Wicket Keeper), Faf du Plessis, JP Duminy, David Miller, Chris Morris , Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Dwaine Petorius, Keshav Maharaj, Farhan Beherdien and Morne Morkel.
It can be well understood from the squad announced that teams have selected squads based on one day specialists–powerful strikers of the ball, flamboyant batsmen, strong pace battery and many all-rounders. We are sure other teams will also follow suit. Many of the Australian and South African members of the squad are now in India playing in IPL. Two Bangladeshis Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman although in India did not play much for their respective franchise.
Bangladesh plays host England in their first match whom they have met at home in a full series in the recent past. They will also play New Zealand whom they have recently played in away series. Bangladesh have not played Australia for a while.
There is not much to talk about the composition of the team.14 of the 15 members of the sqaud have picked themselves on merit and in consideration of the condition in England and Wales. Oval and Cardiff in early June is expected to seam and swing prodigiously. 5 Pacers in the sqaud including two really pacey bowlers Taskin and Rubel are horses for the courses. Mashrafe , Mustafiz and Shafiul will also enjoy the swing in the air and seam in the wicket. We are not sure that inexperienced Sunzamul can be a better choice over tried and tested Nasir Hossain. Bangladesh needs some power hitter and finisher at lower middle order. Very often Bangladeshi batsmen fail taking advantage of slog overs and fall short by 15-20 runs. In that consideration Nasir could be far better choice. He could be handy for three four overs of spin bowling and a brilliant fielder in any position.
Bangladesh plays England in the first match at Oval. We hope the team gets used to English condition by that time through conditioning camp at Sussex and tri nation series against New Zealand and Ireland. Beating England in England will be a huge challenge. We would rather fancy chances against Australia and definitely against New Zealand. But for that Bangladesh must not be initimidated by the raw pace and bounce that Aussie and Kiwi pacers would extract. At least 3 Aussie and three Kiwi pacers would bowl at 14) plus where it would pretty challenging playing them without solid techniques and temperament. I think it is batting that would decide how far Bangladesh would go in the Champions trophy. Obviously the onus will be on Tamim, Shakib, Mushfique and Mahmudullah for leading the batting.
We would expect Bangladesh would compete well and give a good account of themselves. Our expectations must not be sky high. Bangladesh is not among the favourites but cannot be written off as such. Let the Tiger roar in world stage like it did in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
