DHAKA: The second season of ‘Amateur Champions Trophy’ is all set to kick-off in Dhaka on October 13.
BPL defending champion Rangpur Riders is organizing the T20 cricket tournament for the second consecutive time.
Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairman and Rangpur Riders Managing Director Safwan Sobhan Tasvir made the disclosure at a function arranged at the United City Farm House in Satarkul of Badda, Thursday (Oct 4) night.
He unveiled the trophy and jerseys for the tournament.
Rangpur Riders Chairman Mostofa Azad Mohiuddin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ishtiaq Sadek, Executive Director Dr Anwarul Iqbal Mitu, captains of 16 teams and other higher officials of the Riders were present.
16 teams will be playing Amateur Champions Trophy (ACT) this time, under four groups, at three venues in Dhaka-- City Club Ground, Gulshan Youth Club Ground and Dhaka University Ground.
The teams are—MAE Warriors, Laila Cricket Club, Tech Republic, Commonwealth CC, SPG Boyes, Red Court CC, Haque Brothers, Travel Booking BD, Bengal Taj, Kazi Kings, Total Tiger Cricket, Dhaka Indians, Rancon, Gulshan Youth Club, KC Superstar and Green Sailings.
Non-professional cricketers also can play in the tournament which is being arranged concentrating on the former cricketers.
“Our main objective is to promoting cricket, amateur cricket,” Safwan Sobhan told the function.
“We want make them (the non-professional cricketers) gathered. Because, the cricketers playing here, had played professional cricket back in the days. But now they have no opportunity to play. We want to play better cricket locally, accompanying them,” he added.
The tournament will be held in Cox’s Bazar next time and abroad afterwards, said Anwarul Islam Mitu.
The champion team will be given Tk 2 lakh and the runners-ups Tk 1 lakh each, apart from the trophies, he added.
Safwan Sobhan handed over the champion trophy and cheque of Tk1.5 lakh to the captains of the two finalist teams of last season.
However, as many as 12 teams played in the preceding season of the ACT.
