These were not mistakes, these were ranked poor umpiring decisions, may be deliberate attempt for favoring home side those disgraced Bangladesh Cricket yesterday in the last T20 International match between West Indies and Bangladesh.
Two wrong decisions in the same over of West Indies fast bowler Oshan Thomas were found flawed in replays. The second of these led to Liton escaping getting out caught created controversy. The match was held up for 9 minutes till match referee interfered and resolved. It ultimately harmed Bangladesh. They lost momentum and batting got dismantled in the chase. Not that without these decisions the result could be different. But such poor decision put Bangladesh cricket in disrepute. We are sure ICC will take strong view of this and the concerned umpire would be penalized. Bangladesh not only lost the match and the series it harmed the reputation. West Indies team was shocked and displeased. World Cricket witnessed how naïve can be our umpiring.
There had been regular complaints of poor umpiring, biased umpiring in Dhaka cricket favoring a specific team in Dhaka league. Unfortunate an umpire blamed mostly was involved in yesterday’s incident. Perhaps the umpire concerned would be suspended and Bangladesh warned. But the persons benefited from poor umpiring and persons encouraging and influencing for such biased umpiring would remain out of sight.
Everyone knows that BCB at all levels has executives and officials of a particular team of a leading business entity in Bangladesh. This entity has team in Dhaka league and IPL. Umpires are dictated for biased decision favoring this team and teams those leak their boots. Many players are targeted.
Reports appear in media, highlighted in Cricket talk shows in electronic media. But nothing happens. Biased umpiring damaged cricket career of many budding cricket players. It impedes healthy development of cricket. We demand life ban of offending umpire from any cricket in Bangladesh. We demand conducting enquiry into poor umpiring at all levels of domestic cricket.
Hope incumbent government after ensuing election would look into the evils of BCB and cure cricket from chronic disease.
