DHAKA: Mushfiqur Rahim is unlikely to return to the Bangladesh side for the second Test against New Zealand in Wellington, slated to begin from Friday (March 8).
He has been suffering from a wrist injury, as well as a flare-up of a rib problem since the beginning of New Zealand tour, which ruled him out of the first Test in Hamilton.
On Wednesday (Mar 6), Mushfiqur took part in a net session at the Basin Reserve for a considerable period.
Later, Steve Rhodes, coach of the tigers, said that Mushfiq still felt soreness in the area around his thumb and wrist. He remains "extremely doubtful" to return to the Bangladesh side in Wellington test.
"Today was his first real hit," Rhodes said. "We did some work with tennis, rubber and cricket ball. When he got to the cricket ball, there was still a bit of soreness in the ligament area. He is extremely doubtful for the second Test”, Rhodes added
The coach hopeful about Mushfiq’s return to Bangladesh side in the third Test, and said “He is on course for the third Test. Let's hope there's no setback along the way."
