DHAKA: Minutes after Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for World Cup 2019 on Tuesday (April 16), Imrul Kayes fans felt aggrieved for the left hander’s exclusion.
Speculation was swirling on social media the whole day that the cricketer with 11 year service in national team might retire.
Afterwards, Imrul Kayes addressed the rumors on a Facebook post early Wednesday (April 17).
“I have been noticing for a few days that some are making posts (on social media) on my retirement. These news are really saddening for me,” he said.
“In my 11 years’ international career, I have always tried to serve something better to the country and the people,” added the 32-year-old.
“Cricket is my love. I have been ruled out of the World Cup squad that doesn’t mean I’m leaving cricket. I will try my level best to add something good to Bangladesh cricket, whenever I will find an opportunity,” stated Kayes.
The player sought blessings from everyone, on the Facebook post.
However, BCB announced a 15-men squad for the England World Cup keeping Imrul Kayes and Taskin Ahmed, among major cricketers, out.
