DHAKA: Members of the Jatiya Sangsad are set to take part in the Cricket Tournament for Parliamentarians, scheduled in the United Kingdom from July 9 to 15.
The well-prepared team of parliamentarians led by former Bangladesh cricket captain and lawmaker Naimur Rahman Durjoy will reach London on July 7, said a press release of Foreign Ministry today.
Politicians from Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia, and other nations, divided into two groups, will clash at different venues in London.
Bangladesh will play in Group-B with Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand.
“There are also special events, which will help develop relations among these countries. There are also several courtesy calls on the British Prime Minister”, Durjoy added.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam was made the coordinator of the team. A 17-member Bangladesh parliamentarian team met Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on the last day of the budget session.
The initiative has been taken to increase friendship, warmth and cooperation among the members of the parliaments from invited countries, said Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, countries whose teams are taking part in World Cup cricket 2019 have been invited to send a team of parliamentarians to participate in the World Cup, scheduled to begin July 9.
