DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board is set to issue a show-cause notice to Shakib Al Hasan for making an unlawful contract with a telecom company.
The country's leading all-rounder joined Grameenphone as their brand ambassador on October 22.
According to BCB's players' agreement, a cricketer under national contract cannot join a telecom company.
Both of the parties inked the deal a day after the country's cricketers called for a strike placing an 11-point demand to the board. The strike eventually ended on October 23.
BCB chief told a leading daily on Saturday (October 26): "He cannot make an agreement with a telecom company, and why he cannot make this agreement is clearly stated in our contract paper."
As regards show-cause notice, BCB chief said: "We are taking legal action against him. We cannot spare anyone in this regard. We will ask for answer. We directed to send notices to both parties, asking for explanation from the company as well as from the player. In others words, we want to give a chance to Shakib Al Hasan to prove him innocent. Punitive action will be taken against him if not provided with satisfactory answer.”
BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz that they were not aware about the deal with Grameenphone. Besides, every cricketer must take permission from the board for agreement or advertisement.
