DHAKA: Despite withdrawal of the cricketers' strike, the cloud of uncertainty remains in the sky of Bangladesh’s cricket. Various rumors spread about T20 and Test captain Shakib Al Hasan.
Some media have reported that Bangladesh's top player Shakib is set to be banned by the International Cricket Council for not reporting a corrupt approach.
According to several media reports quoting sources of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Shakib, the country's Test and T20I skipper, could be banned for 18 months by ICC unless the gambler's proposal was notified to the board or Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the ICC.
However, no official statement or comment has been received by the ICC, BCB or Shakib Al Hasan.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell spoke to reporters at the secretariat on Tuesday (October 29).
He said, "We have heard about the allegation. Although there is nothing we can do about the ICC. But we will stand beside Shakib. We will try to ensure that Shakib does not face any problems.”
Media reports also stated that Shakib Al Hasan is being kept away from practice ahead of the team's high-profile India tour on ICC's instructions.
Bangladesh are likely to travel India for the upcoming T20I and Test tour of India, scheduled to start on November 3 with the first T20I in Delhi.
