Spirited New Zealand finally found a winning formula against strong India. After successfully chasing 348 in the first ODI at Hamilton, they successfully defended 273 today at Eden Park Auckland taking unassailable 2-0 lead in the three matches ODI series. New Zealand posted a challenging 273/8 in allotted overs. Good accurate bowling and sharp fielding caused India to get bundled out for 251. At one stage India was 7/153 by the 32nd over.

Wining the toss Kohli elected to bat in the must win game to stay in the series. But New Zealand riding on blazing bat of Martin Guptill79 in 79 deliveries and an opening partnership of 93 Black Gaps appeared to set up a run mountain. But India bounced back restricting black caps to 8/197 by the 42nd over. However even reliable Ross Taylor finding a good allay with debutant Kyle Jamieson added 76 invaluable runs in the unbroken 9th wicket partnership. Still 274 appeared a chase able target for the strong Indian batting. New Zealand panicked a bit in pursuit for a large score. The early advantage they got could get them 300 plus if they kept their cool. But panic caused Latham, Neesham, Granhomme perish in no time. However, debutant Jamieson had the quality and courage staying with ever reliable Taylor. He went on scoring unbeaten 73. Jamieson also scored unbeaten 25.

The response of India got rocked with Agarwall, Shaw and Kohli getting out by the 10th over with 57 on board . There was no pressure of run rate yet Rahul and Jadhav panicked. Iyer after getting set threw away his wicket scoring 52. India at one stage was 7/153 by the 32nd over. Jadeja had only the tail enders to bat with him. Balck cap bowlers were bowling at right length and direction making run making a tough ask. Saini joined Jadeja. This pair playing aggressively rekindled the hope taking the score to 229 by the 45 th over when Saini got out. Jadeja by that time was well set. However, all black cap bowlers were doing their assigned duties exceedingly well. Jadeja was the lone warrior. He attacked Neesham in the 49th over holing out to Grandhomme in deep. India was all out 251. Four New Zealand bowlers Southee, Benett, Granhomee and Jamieson took 2 wickets each. New Zealand for the second match in succession did not show nerves which cost them two matches in the T20 series. The series is already wrapped up . The third match will be interesting to see whether New Zealand can return the compliment whitewashing India.

India has genuine problem in the middle and late order. The absence of Dhoni is being realised in tight matches.
