ICC Men’s World Cup Super League Sets Off Today

ICC Men’s World Cup Super League among the 12 full members to be played on home and way basis starts between England and Ireland starts today at Ageas Bowl today.

This super league is for qualifying India plus seven teams for playing in the 2023 ICC World Cup to be hosted by India. The bottom two teams will have to play against the ICC associate member countries for filling in the two other spots of 10 teams World cup.

Again the matches will be played with empty gallery obliging to all other WHO guidelines and Bio Security protocol. The first test series after CORONA imposed silence between England and West Indies has just been successfully completed with England winning 2-1.

England is the reigning champion having won it for first time at Lords in a fascinating nail biting final against New Zealand.  Its neighbor however failed to make it in 2019. England is a new team with most of the players playing the test have not been included leaving them relaxed for much more important test series against Pakistan starting at Emirates stadium from 5 August. Playing in England for the Irish team is not much different than playing at home like all other teams.

The conditions, the wickets are not much different . Many of their players play in England in any case. The series may not be one sided affair at all.

England (Probable): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow (wk), James Vince, Eoin Morgan (capt),  JoeDenly, Tom Banton,  Moeen Ali,  David Willey,  Tom Curran, Adil Rashid,  Saqib Mahmood

Root Ben Stokes, Archer, Buttler are among names missing from the English squad. Only Joe Denly and Tom Curran had some cricket recently played against West Indies. The team though has some ODDI specialist and in English condition is still a formidable unit.

Ireland (Probable):  Paul Stirling, Gareth Delany, Andy Balbirnie (capt), Harry Tector/William Porterfield, Kevin O'Brien, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Simi Singh, Curtis Campher,  Andy McBrine,  Barry McCarthy,  Josh Little/Boyd Rankin

Clear underdog Ireland can not be taken lightly. They are more than capable for testing England as their test team pushed England in their only test played against them. Paul Stirling, Andy Balbine, Portersfield, Kevin O’Brian, Andy McBrine, Boyd Raknin have wealth of experience.

This team may surprise England. What a great achievement it would be if Ireland wins the series making it a grand start of their mission for qualification for the World Cup 2023.
