RCB Won The Match In Super Over
Player Of The Match: AB de Villiers

It was another thriller, another melodrama. Yet another high scoring match dramatically petered out to exciting super over. Winning the match RCB consolidated its position in the point’s table.

Batting first RCB put up impressive 201/3. Till the 18th over of Mumbai Indian innings RCB looking like cruising to victory. But a tidal surge through explosive batting by Ishan Kishan (99 in 58 deliveries) and Keiron Pollard (unbeaten 60 in 24 balls) with showering boundaries and over boundaries tied the match as MI also scored 201/5. The match rolled to super over. Navdeep Saini bowling tight kept MI to only 7 runs, which Kohli and AB de Villiers only overhauled on the last ball of Jasprit Bumrah over. This dramatic win consolidated RCB position in the points table while the position of reigning champions Mumbai Indians became a little uncertain. They will now need winning at least 3 of their remaining 4 matches to stay in the rat race.

Keeping up with the trend of this year’s IPL, Rohit Sharma chose to chase after winning the toss. On an easy paced wicket and in the small ground youngster Devdutt Padikkai (54) and Australian limited overs Captain Aaron Flinch gave a solid start to RCB innings racing to 81 in 9 overs. Kiwi pacer Boultmade dent to RCB innings removing Flinch  and then Indian Captain Virat Kohli fell to Chahar again for a low score. For the third match in succession Kohli did not bother the scorers much getting out cheap every time. Padikkai and then AB de Villiers (unbeaten 55 from 24 deliveries) then added very useful 62 for the 3rd wicket before Padikkai fell to Boult. AB de Villiers adding 47 runs in unfinished 4th wicket partnership with Dube (unbeaten 27 in only 10 balls) took the score to 201/3.  At innings break, even that score was considered 20 runs short given the state of the wicket and powerful MI batting studded with power hitters.

But RCB bowlers bowling tight and fielders running and diving for everything almost squeezed MI out of the match till the 19th over. Washington Sundar bowled miserly 4 overs giving away only 12 runs for a wicket. But then well set Ishan Kishan and Keiron Pollard Explored. Fours and sixes came like fountain. 119 runs were scored in quick time and a lot in the last two overs. Kishan scored 99 with 2 fours and 9 sixes. The unbeaten 60 of Pollard came in only 24 deliveries which contained 3 fours and 5 sixes. Had not Kishan got out on the second last ball MI could have won the match. The match got tied at 201.

In the super over Navdeep bowled brilliantly to restrict MI to 7 only. In came two top batsman of modern day cricket AB de Villiers (Mr 360 Degrees) and Indian Captain Virat Kohli. MI had one of their impact bowlers Jasprit Bumrah. The drama reached crescendo as the match was decided on the last ball which Kohli blasted for a boundary. A match won but only just . RCB piped MI to the post. This was the second of 10 matches played in IPL 2020 decided in the super over.
