Excellent bowling, smart fielding and great batting take Delhi Capital to the final of the very eventful IPL 2020. This is the first ever final of IPL for DC.
Batting first DC scored impressive 189/3. On a batting wicket it still required good bowling and tight fielding. DC lived up to it and restricted SRH to 172/8. Winning by 17 runs they earned a date against reigning champions Mumbai Indians for a crack at the trophy.
DC won the toss and on a good-looking surface elected to bat. Iyer took a calculated gamble letting Stoinis open the innings with Dhawan and it worked. Stoinis struck some deadly blows as the first wicket partnership putting 65 in 8.2 overs set a platform. SRH looked tensed in the field and made few errors . Rashid Khan ultimately cleaned up Stoinis for 38. S Dhawan (78) kept plugging away playing the sheet anchors role. His 52 runs 3rd wicket partnership with captain Iyer set the tone for late flourish by Hetmeyer (42*) for posting an impressive 189/3. On a knock out match score on board is a huge advantage.
SRH in reply appeared in haste. Rabada with an excellent swinging yorker cleaned up dangerous Warner before he could set his roots. Day definitely belonged to Aussie all rounder Stoinis. He got the wickets of Garg and Pandey in his first spell. Williamson was left with Holder to take the challenge. Unfortunately Holder on the day could not deliver. Williamson kept SRH dreaming. A brave person from Jammu & Kashmir Abdus Samad was his allay. 57 precious runs were put together in the 5th wicket partnership. Stoinis coming back to the attack put the last nail taking the wicket of Williamson (67). Samad kept the hopes alive for a while striking 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 16 balls 33. But Rabada in his brilliant last over taking 3 wickets put paid to SRH venture. They could reach as far as 172/8 losing the match by 17 runs.
DC for the first time reached the final for meeting with Mumbai Indians again. The two top teams of the elite club of IPL 2020 are now face-to-face of what appears to be the epic final of an unforgettable IPL. Marcus Stoinis for his excellent all-round performance was adjudged player of the match.
