India 62 Runs Ahead With 9 Wickets at hand.
On a very eventful day (16 wickets fell) of very intense cricket team India spearheaded by brilliant aggressive bowling wretched advantage from the host Australia.
Steep disconcerting bounce and lively pace of Adelaide Oval wicket assisted Bumrah, Yadav, Sami and especially bounce and turn led Ashwin web magic for crashing Australia to 191 all out. India themselves got bundled out for 244 starting the days proceeding at 233/6. In 6 overs in India’s second innings Cummins piercing through the gate of the bat and pad of young Pirthvi Shaw had the tourist down to 9/1. India 62 runs ahead with 9 second innings wicket at hand is in distinct advantage. Another 250 runs if the add today should create opportunity for them winning the test. But the nature of the wicket and the quality of Australian bowling would make it an extremely challenging task. Adelaide test is delicately poised. Very high-quality cricket of the two evenly matched teams are at store.
In the report of days one play when India finished at 233/6 we wrote the match as evenly poised . We wrote it feeling the fast, bouncy nature of the wicket. We knew that highly talented Indian bowling attack would take stern test of depleted Australian batting. We thought Indian tail would add another 30-40 runs. But very incisive Starc and Hazlewood did not take much time wrapping up Indian tail with the addition of only 11 runs. India got all out for 244.
Australian opening partnership appeared ill equipped and very nervous. Joe Burns struggled in his position in his brief career and Matthew Wade is a make shift opener. We are not sure why Australia had to opt for them knowing fully well the potential threat that Bumrah , Sami and Yadab would create. Gone were the days when India did not have quality pace attack. Now they possess highly skilled all round attack. Bumrah is a freak bowler, very difficult wristy action to peak and subtle deceptive movement. Sami and Yadab have raw pace and bowl accurate. Ashwin on a bouncy wicket is always very lethal. These four made Australia perspire for survival on juicy Adelaide Wicket with the pink ball. None but Labuchagne in the top order including prolific Smith had any clue. Bumrah had both Burns and Wade trapped LBW reducing Australia to 2/29. Smith was due to resurrect with Labuchagne. But witty Ashwin curtained his 29 balls 1 run struggle making him provide an easy catch to Rahane . Ashwin also had Travis Head caught and bowled very early in his innings. Australia was tottering at 4/65. Cameroon Green the tall debutant feel to flying like saucer Kohli grabbing an excellent catch of the bowling of Ashwin. Labuchagne was having a charmed life getting dropped few times. Yadav bowling at pace on right channel soon joined the party removing Labuchagne (43) and Cummins (0) in quick succession. Austrlia was looking down the barrel at 7/111. Captain Pain had to relieve his pain appearing in flamboyant cavalier mood. He started counter attacking. His unbeaten 73 in 99 balls elevated Australia to 191 all out at least reducing the deficit to 53 . Ashwin (4/55) , Yadav (3/40) and Bumrah ( 2/52 ) did most of the damage.
In the 6 remaining overs left Cummins and Starc bowled with pace and venom. Young Shaw had no clue to one Cummins delivery pitching at length and doing just enough to pierce through his defense castling him. India sent Bumrah watching for the night which he did. At 9/1 India finished the day
