Player of the Match: Jacob Duffy

New Zealand continued their sparkling form in all formats of international cricket winning big by 5 wickets against strong Pakistan in the first match of the T20 series at Auckland. Kiwis have mostly new players of talented youth and Pakistan also could not field their best batting units for injury and other reasons. Pakistan batting first posted below par 153/9 on a small ground which Kiwis cruised past scoring 156/5 in 18.5 overs.

Believe us New Zealand has less population than many large cities of the world. Wonder how they regularly produce quality cricketers so regularly. Apart from Guptil, Nisham, Sodhi and Santner few people know about the 7 others in the team. Yet after roller coaster ride over West Indies the young guns started brilliantly against strong Pakistan.

Batting first Pakistan ran into deep water early on plunging to 5/39 by the 9th over. Debutant Jacob Duffy tormented Pakistan top order with his accurate fast medium. Pakistan without their charismatic skipper Babar Azam lacked quality in counteracting with the quality Kiwi attack. Stand in Captain Shadab Khan (41) and all-rounder Fahim Ashraf (31) playing some aggressive strokes in later stage gave some respectability to the innings posting 153/9 in the allotted overs. Yet that score appeared way too small considering the small ground and easy paced wicket.

Pakistan bowlers did well making some early inroads. But young talents wicket keeper batsman Tim Seifert (57) and Mark Chapman (34) batted smartly taking Kiwis cruising over Pakistan. Kiwis won by 5 wickets scoring 156/5.

Not only in Test and ODI New Zealand with several promising players looking great in T20 format as well. It is an ample proof that good organization and smart management can take a cricket nation high above the rest. Other countries have so much learning from the Kiwis cricket now.
