On greenish Christchurch wicket having pace, bouncing and swing Pakistan put in to bat could manage keeping quality Kiwi attack at bay till lunch. But introduction of fast improving Jamieson triggered collapse. From 1/66 Pakistan got reduced to 4/83 in no time. The Premiere Pakistan batsmen in the absence of talented Babar Azom, Azahar Ali and Mohammad Rizwan took charge. .88 runs 5th wicket partnership seemingly salvaged Pakistan. Jamieson again proved a thorn in Pakistan camp as he also accounted for Rizwan and Faheem Ashraf. Pakistan was all out for 297. It is such a score, which on a sporting wicket may prove enough if Pakistan bowls and fields well. But cannot give Pakistan complete assurance.
 
On a green top pacey wicket in swing favoring overhead condition Williamson winning the toss had no hesitation for putting Pakistan into bat. The tourist was still without their champion batsman Babar Azam. The gave Zafar Gohar test cap in place of Yasir Shah. Shan Masood was removed very early by Southee. But Abid Ali and Azhar Ali handled the pace and swing expertly till Jamieson appearing in the scene removed Abid Ali, Harris Sohail and Fawad Alam in no time. He was extracting disconcerting bounce. The ball he got rid of Fawad Alam was an unplayable brute of a delivery. In desperate situation Azhar and Rizwan batted bravely. Azhar was doing the sheet anchor job. Rizwan was looking good. But Jamieson in new spell ended a good 5th wicket partnership removing Rizwan (61). Faheem gave Azhar good support. But Azhar getting out at 93 lost a great opportunity of a well-deserved century. Faheem (48) and debutant Zafar Gohar (34) made useful contribution. Pakistan could reach 297 all out by stumps. A good score but cannot be a safe score unless Pakistan bowls and fields well. Jamieson taking 5/69 proved a thorn in Pakistan camp.
