Player Of The Match: Ravichandra Ashwin.

In a matter of week India recovering from a huge defeat by 227 turns turned around achieving 317 runs victory over the same opposition. Same ground same opposition but absolutely opposite result. Off course the only difference was the toss. England won the toss batted first in the first test. India won in the second test, batted first and recorded victory by larger margin.  The wicket turned square from day one. World knows on such wicket it is almost impossible winning against India. The four matches very important test series now locked at 1-1. Two more test would be played at newly built Sardar Patel Stadium Ahmedabad. England needs winning both for qualifying for the finals at Lords against New Zealand. India also needs winning the series. A drawn series would let Australia playing the final.

In recent time India has shown how the depth and diversity of the team abundant with quality players can turn the table on opposition even from distressed situation. In down under team India was shocked and awed crushing to a huge defeat in the day night test at Adelaide. They were crushed scoring 36 in that fateful second innings. From there on the depleted team without most of their first choice players they won the series 2-1 in majestic fashion rewriting few pages of the cricket history.  Now also in this very important test series England shocked them in the first test at Chennai winning big by 227 runs. Joe Root alone batted India out of the game.
Only a week from that disastrous test playing on a different surface with a bit different attack India turned around and returned the compliment to the tourists winning by 317 runs.

The wicket started turning from day one. India winning the toss and batting first had to ride on brilliant punishing innings of flamboyant Rohit Sharma scoring 161. Ajinka Rahane 67, and Rishab Pant 58 also made useful contributions as India posted a medicore first innings score of 329. Moeen Ali 4/128, Olly Stone 3/47, Jack Leach 2/78) were impressive with the ball.

Very strong Indian spin attack comprising of right arm off spinner Ashwin. Left Arm Orthodox Axar Patel and Left Arm unorthodox Kuldeep Yadav made life hell for England. They could reach 134 in the first Innings conceding a huge 183 runs first innings lead. Ashwin took 5/43.

India also found it difficult managing turn and bounce. Yet a quality 106 by Ashwin and 62 by Kohli led them scoring 286 in the second innings. The match was way out of reach on England.

In the second innings on the spinners paradise England could manage 164 losing the match by huge 317 runs. Axar Patel took 5/60.

The series looks delicately balanced. The next two matches would be played at brand new surface of brand-new stadium at Ahmedabad. One of the matches would be day night. The fate of the team for playing the final of ICC test championship hinges on these two matches. Whatever happens one must appreciate the achievements of Indian cricket reversing the tide against major opposition. It is only possible for diverse quality resources originating from well-organized well-managed domestic cricket. This can be lesson to be replicated by other cricket playing nations.
