Player Of The Match: Aaron Flinch
Series Stands at 2-2
Led by enterprising Flinch Australia showing lot of character and composure winning big the 4th of the five matches T20 series squared the series 2-2. Australia could reach 156/6 only due to explosive batting of Flinch in the last over blasting 26 runs with four huge sixes. The momentum such created led Australian bowlers and fielders squeezing Black Caps rattling them to 106 all Out.. Australia won by 50 runs. With the series locked at 2-2 the last match would be a mouth-watering contest. The experiment by Cricket Australia sending the inform BBL preforming players finally have started paying the dividends.
New Zealand won the first match easy, they are bit lucky in closely contested second match gaining 2-0 lead. Lock down for Corona break out at Auckland moved the series to Wellington. Australia won the third match easy making it 2-1 .Things were very much in control of New Zealand till the 19th over . Australia was 130/6. Flinch let loose reign of terror on Kayle Jammieson striking 4 consecutive sixes. The 26 runs and the hammering that Flinch let out perhaps rattle New Zealand. 156/6 in a difficult wicket was a challenging score.
Australia choosing to bat lost wickets at regular interval on a difficult wicket. Four of five top order batsmen Wade ( 14) , Philippe (13) , Maxwell ( 18) , Stoinis ( 19) , apart from Flinch got start but none could convert.. Ish Sodhi (3/32) Boult ( 2/27) , Santner (1/14) . Flinch kept his cool till the last over . He unfurled and unleashed against Jamieson taking 26 glorious runs. His stand out 79 not out in 55 deliveries with five fours and 4 sixes ( stuck in the last over) was match defining.. The logic of persisting with Kayle Jamieson was not understood. He should not even be in the team after very ordinary performance in the first three matches. Him conceding 49 runs in four overs cost the home team the match.
Responding to the target New Zealand required at least one good partnership. But very intelligent bowling and sharp fielding by hungry Kangaroos choked the black caps. 8 of their batsmen could not even reach double figure . Jamieson scoring 30 could pay back part of his debt. For reasons best known to the home team they looked panicked. There has to some reason for a team losing by 50 runs chasing only 157 for a series win. Australian bowlers bowled well as a team.
We are not sure whether New Zealand can turn around in the last match as momentum is very much with Australia . Aaron Flinch proved which he is rated so high as T20 batsman. He is now the highest run getter among the Australian in T20 and the highest numbers of six striker.
