In 2020 IPL 13 DC met MI four times and lost all four times including the final. In 2021 in the very first meet DC upstaged reigning champions MI . Veteran Amit Mishra led the DC Charge Of The Light Brigade taking 4/24. Batting first the mighty MI unit got rocked playing very disciplined bowling unit of Dc ably marshaled by Rishab Pant. On a sluggish wicket gripping and turning MI could score 137/9. DC also struggled over hauling the target scoring 138/4 in 19.1 overs. DC avenged its 2020 serial defeats winning the first bout by 6 wickets. With 3 wins from 4 matches DC is now right behind table topper RCB in second position. The loss puts MI at 5th position.

MI elected to bat which on hind sight proved wrong. The sluggish nature of the wicket getting slower and lower as the match progresses perhaps pushed Rohit taking that decision. Rohit (44), Ishan Kishan (26), SK Yadav (24) got start but could get going. On such a wicket only batsmen getting their eyes in can bat a bit comfortably. Amit Mishra taking the wickets of Rohit, Kishan, Pollard and Hardik strangled MI. Pandya brothers and Pollard together produced only 3. At later order Janyant Yadav produced 23. MI score of 137/9 was at least 30 runs less than competitive target. Apart from Mishra, Avesh Khan also took 2/15. Rabada (1/25) and Stoinis (1/20) also bowled tight.

Cannot say MI bowled all that bad. Defending very small target MI bowlers kept DC waiting till the last over for overhauling the target. Champion batsman Shikhar Dhawan again led the run chase scoring 45, Australian megastar Steve Smith contributed 33. Apart from the two only Lalit Yadav could make a notable contribution of unbeaten 23. DC looked a bit nervous after Rohit, Smith and Pant got out. The win came only in the last over. We are sure these two teams would meet few more time along the journey in 2021.
