DC had a lucky escape as SRH from a seemingly winning position failed overhauling their score. It was an opportunity lost for SRH. Requiring 24 runs in the last 9 overs for a win they just could tie the match. In the eventual one over eliminator SRH lost . Winning the match DC elevated its position in the points table right behind table topper CSK . After 5 matches CSK, DC and RCB each have 8 points. MI, PBKS and RR have 4 points each. RR and KKR are languishing at the bottom with 2 points from a single match win.

Electing to bat DC made a smooth start with Prthibi Shaw (53) and Shikhar Dhawan (28) producing 81 by the 11th over. After Dhawan left Rishav Pant (37) and Steve Smith (34 *) also made useful contributions as DC got up to 159/7 in their allotted overs. 159 appeared to be a good enough score to defend on the sluggish Chennai wicket in the context of some recent matches. Siddath Kaul taking 2/31 was the most successful of SRH bowlers. 

Response of SRH was thwarted by regular fall of wickets though Kane Williamson (66*) batting all the way and Jonny Bairstow (38) at the top looked like winning the match for SRH. Avesh Khan taking 3/34 and Axar Patel taking 2/ 26 made it challenging for SRH. However, SRH managed to tie the match reaching 159/7 by the end of the allotted overs. However, losing in the single over eliminator SRH let opportunity slipping out of their grasp. While DC rose to 2nd position SRH stays in the bottom with KKR.
