Poor Zimbabwe finding a strong Pakistan team fresh from resounding success in South Africa proved no match to Pakistan. The strong Pakistan bowling attack restricted Zimbabwe to 176 all out in the first innings by team with Shahin Shah Afridi ( 4/43) and Hasan Ali (4/53) giving the home team no respite. Pakistani openers starting their reply after tea cruised to unbroken partnership of 103 . Pakistan is looking in complete control. Off course strange things happen in test cricket. Still facts are stronger than fiction. Pakistan is favorite for winning and winning big from where it is now.
Earlier Zimbabwe winning the toss elected to bat. The blooded three new players Milton Shumba, Roy Kala and Richard Ngarava. Sajid Khan had debut for Pakistan. Injury to Williams led to Brendon Taylor leading the team. Home team ran into immediate crisis losing 4/30 by 19th over as Afridi and Hasan Ali ripped through the top order. The debutants Roy Kala and Milton Shumba tried to resurrect. But impressive Pakistani all round bowling attack was too good to take wickets at regular interval. Kala scored 48 and Shumba ran himself out for 27. Among the late order batsmen only Donald Tiripano resisted a bit scoring unbeaten 28. Zimbabwe innings was wrapped up for 176. Shahin Afridi (4/43) and Hasan Ali (4/53) proved too hot to handle for the home team.
Pakistan starting the batting after tea had no issues handling Zimbabwe attack. Abid Ali (56*) and Rookie Imran Butt (43) Cruised to 103/0 at stumps promising more on day two. Pakistan is in firm control of the test.
