The youth team from War and Conflict ravaged Afghanistan beating Bangladesh Under 19 by 3 wickets at Sylhet exposed the poor planning and weak management of development of Cricket by BCB.

It is sad that Bangladesh under 19 in 2019 was world champion. Afghan does not have enough facilities for playing cricket at home. They have started playing cricket as ICC full member only few years back. Still their senior team whitewashed Bangladesh senior team in T20 cricket in India few years back and they also shocked Bangladesh in the lone test they played at Chattogram.

It is highly unlikely that Bangladesh can even beat Afghanistan if they qualify playing in the same group of Super 12 of the ensuing ICC T20 world cup.

In the contamination of BCB election virus this defeat of Bangladesh Under 19 may go unnoticed. But this is the real state of Bangladesh at the hands of tall talking BCB management. After the return of victories Bangladesh 19 team from ICC Championship in 2019 BCB President talked about long term comprehensive plan. What was that plan.

COVID cannot be an excuse. For developing the future generation of Bangladesh cricket if that youth team was systematically even during the COVID period many of that team could have matured by now. Many of the new age group players would have been better players at least not losing matches to Afghanistan at home. Bangladesh also lost the last two matches of white ball cricket before losing the 4 days match. This gives enough indication that Nazmul Hasan Papon led BCB when they are reinstated again after the October 6 executive committee election have to do lot of soul searching in carrying the cricket development forward. The complete structure of domestic cricket needs revamping.

Years after years cricket outside Dhaka is neglected. Akram, Nasir and Nannu must be ashamed that quality Cricket in Chittagong is almost nonexistent now. Why Khulna stadium facilities are not developed now for staging international Cricket regularly? Why Rajshahi as a venue of International Cricket lost its past? Why the Stadium of Bogura is not being used? Why Mymensingh, Comilla, Faridpur, Jessore which once used as important cricket center now has little cricket? Will the so-called BDT 900 Crores fixed deposit of BCB breed anything if cricket is not developed at grass roots? Team like Afghanistan and Nepal can produce quality leg spinner and even China man bowlers. Bangladesh cannot because there is no such plan.

Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar has unique facilities for developing Residential Cricket Academy there. Let BCB build own residential facilities near t Cox’s bazar Sheikh Kamal Stadium and Directors from Chittagong Division are given Charge for conducting year wise Cricket programs there.  Let there be similar things done at Khulna and Rajshahi for the directors there. The Next BPL 2022 must be played at home and away basis at 7 divisional head quarter venues for spreading the game all over Bangladesh. Mymensingh, Comilla, Faridpur, Jessore, Barishal and Satkhira can be also developed simultaneously.

The days of trapping teams on low slow, gripping turning wickets at home would be over soon. The shock therapy given by Afghan youths must serve as a wake up call.
