Bangladesh VS Oman played at Muscat on 19 October 2021
Bangladesh 153 All Out (Mohammad Naim 64, Shakib Al Hasan 42 , Mahmudullah Riad 17 , Billal Khan 3/18, Fayaz Butt 3/30 ,Kalemullah 2/30) ,
Oman 127/9 (Jatindar Singh 40, Kayap Prajapati 21,Mustafizur Rahman 4/36, Shakib Al Hasan 3/28)
Bangladesh Won by 26 Runs
Player of the Match: Shakib Al Hasan

Favorite to win the qualifying round Bangladesh losing the first match unexpectedly against lowly Scotland was fighting for survival. Winning a must win match against Oman in a must win game by 26 runs they have somehow retrieved their position . They still have to win big against PNG is the last match against PNG and wait for the outcome of the other match between Oman and Scotland. Net Run Rate would come into play in case three teams finish with 4 points.

Brilliant all round performance by star all rounder Shakib Al Hasan (42 runs and 3/28), business as usual bowling by Mustafiz (4/36) and good batting by opener Naim (64 in 50 deliveries) set the tone of Bangladesh win. Even after this win Bangladesh stays 3rd in the pints table. On the day lot can be said about Bangladesh not playing Nasum Ahmed, making panicked changes of the batting order, fielding very poor. Yet the win came as a blessing. Otherwise they could be preparing to pack for home. Their place for the Super 12 is not assured yet. But this win would definitely act as a tonic .  Never in the past Bangladesh witnessed Mushfiqur Rahim batting at 8 nor in the future they would see that. All experiments of Bangladesh changing the batting order yesterday bounced back. Luckily Oman also fielded very poorly. Or there could be shocking results yesterday as well. Liton (5) , Mehedi (0) , Sohan (3) , Afif (1), Mushfique (6) ,Saifuddin (0) ,Mustafiz (2) and Taskin (1*)  eight batsmen together added 18 runs. Yet Bangladesh won as Oman batsmen did not have the quality to handle red-hot Shakib (3/28) and Mustafiz (4/36).  Bangladesh should get through and with a little bit of luck going their way may even finish on top. But in Super 12 they have to iron out so many loopholes. Team chemistry is not looking great at this moment.
Bangladesh according to many should have played with three spinners. Their match winner in recent times   Nasum Ahmed should not have been left warming the bench. T20 is not mean that someone has to bowl at 140 plus all the time. Anyway bringing back Naim was smart decision. The saga of Liton continued . Now with Liton and Soumya not performing what will be the Bangladesh option from here on?  Naim was rusty at the start and was given reprieve twice before he could set his bearings right. The experiment with Mahedi failed. Shakib pushed to number 4 in the batting order got back into his usual stride . His fluent partnership with Naim (80 in 9 overs) set the foundation of Bangladesh batting. When this pair consolidated Bangladesh position what the hell Bangladesh did experimenting with Sohan and Afif at 5 and 6? Why not Mushfique and Mahmudullah (two most experienced campaigners) allowed to bat at their usual positions? Bangladesh almost messed it up as both failed. Luckily Naim stayed for sometime and Mahmudullah struck some blows .Yet 153 all out appeared not unassailable score at innings break. Naim must be credited for his 64 scored of 50 deliveries with three fours and four sixes. Flamboyant Shakib scored a quick fire 42 off 29 deliveries. Eight batsmen could not even reach double figures. Billal Khan (3/18), Fayaz Butt (3/30) and Kalemullah (2/30) bowled well for Oman.
Taskin leaked runs in his first over and Mustafiz bowled 5 wides in his first over. Bangladesh was looking panicked. However, Saifuddin and Shakib coming into the attack calmed the nerves. Mahedi bowled as usual very tight overs. Yet Jatindar Singh started appeared as a thorn. However, Mustafiz (4/36) and Shakib (3/28), the two world class performers rising to the occasion earned Bangladesh 26 runs win . Mentioned must also be made about Mahedi bowling tight in taking 1/14 in his 4 overs and Saifuddin taking 1/16 in his four. This win must have given fresh air to Bangladesh desperately perspiring for that. From this position they should scarp through to Super 12 winning big against PNG tomorrow. But nothing is done before it will be actually done. We feel pity for Jatindar Singh as his brilliant solo effort of 40 runs in 33 balls was not big enough to guide Oman to yet another win. Their middle and late order were not equipped to handle Super Shakib and Majestic Mustafiz.
