Time For Cricketers Responding To Critics By Performance

Lot is at stake for sad looking Bangladesh and poor performing reigning Champions West Indies languishing at 5th and sixth of the super 12 points table of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.   It is now or never situation for both the team. For saving grace even it is a must win game for both. Only a big win can keep their dreams going. For West Indies it is a matter of pride to defend their reputation. For Bangladesh the cricketers can only prove critics wrong through solid performance. Enough must have been enough for them with too many talks. Fans and critics would always praise or criticize in the event of good performances or failures. Players can always turn the tides around bouncing back with good performances. No one in their wildest of dreams would give Bangladesh any chance of progressing further. On the other hand very powerful West Indies can still make it provided they win their remaining three matches big. That is where Bangladesh has big worries.

West Indies came to ICC World Cup 2021 with huge reputations. They won the last two versions of ICC Men’s T20 world cup. The team is studded with all champion T20 superstars, many shorter version specialists. But in two matches against England and South Africa their batting capitulated. They not only lost but by huge margin. England really humiliated them. Bangladesh on the other hand should have won against Sri Lanka. They always gave poor accounts of themselves against England. Today in the battle of to teams laying at the bottom of the table any thing can happen.

Online betters have West Indies as favourites to win this match, offering odds of 4/9 in favour of Kieron Pollard's side. Bangladesh are available at 17/10.

All knows West Indies is like a sleeping volcano .Can erupt any time. They have a brutal list of world-class T20 cricketers. If any two came to their own Sarjah would be too small a ground to contain. Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer are would be looking for a first major contribution of this competition. So far only Evin Lewis has done justice to his reputation making a half-century in a losing cause against the Proteas.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman will be crucial with the ball, while left-hander Mohammad Naim entered the tournament with a growing reputation and has continued to score runs. Shakib Al Hasan, of course, is a known quantity and a high-class operator. Bangladesh needs top order firing and scoring runs in the death overs. They can still shock West Indies with their bowling skills. It would be a disaster for them if they continue loosing. Cricketers and BCB boss have talked too much.

Changes are due in both the teams. Lendl Simmons looked like Alice In the Wonderland against South Africa crawling to 16 in 35 balls. Roston Chase may come in the middle order pushing Hetmeyer at the top. Hayden Walsh may replace Akeal Hossain.

Bangladesh should try with Soumya Sarkar replacing Liton K Das. Experienced Rubel Hossain can also be tried. But all eyes would be on Shakib, Mushfique, Mahmudullah and Mustafiz leading the charge of the light brigade.

Bangladesh (probable):  Mohammad Naim, Soumya Sarkar, Afif Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan,  Mushfiqur Rahim,  Mahmudullah (Capt),   Nurul Hasan (WK),  Mahedi Hasan,  Shoriful Islam,  Nasum Ahmed and   Mustafizur Rahman

West Indies: (probable): Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Chris Gayle,  Kieron Pollard (Capt),  Andre Russell,  Dwayne Bravo,  Hayden Walsh,  Akeal Hosein and  Ravi Rampaul
