Tigers clinch ODI series over NZ

DHAKA: Bangladesh won the ODI (One Day International) series against New Zealand for the second time in the home with one match to go of three-match series by 40 runs.

Tiger started facing Kiwis in their second match Thursday at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur in the capital.

The host scored 247 runs loosing all wickets in 49 over while visiting New Zealand scored 207 runs in 46.4 overs loosing all wickets.

Tamim Iqbal scored 58 runs in 86 balls with five fours and a six while debutant opener Shamsur Rahman scored 25 runs. Young Mominul Haque and Captain Mushfiqur Rahim scored 31 runs. Towards the ending Sohag Gazi scored quick 26 runs which set a tricky target of 248 runs for the Kiwis.

James Neesham and Corey Anderson bagged four wickets each considering 53 and 40 runs respectively while Kyle Mills and Nathan McCullum took one each for New Zealand.

Mortaza, took three wickets, started the proceeding with early wicket in the third over of New Zealand innings. Regular loss of wickets due to some magnificent performance by the spinners Sohag Gazi, who took three wickets, Mominul Haq, who bagged two wickets and Razzaq’s one wicket led towards the series victory for Bangladesh.

Ross Taylor scored 45, highest for the Kiwis, while Corey Anderson scored 37.

In 2010 Bangladesh beat visiting New Zealand 4-0 in the ODI (One Day International) cricket series.
