Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology adviser Md Nahid Islam said today that there was no directive from the government to shut down internet services in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
“There have been isolated incidents of temporary internet disruptions, which have been mischaracterized as a complete shutdown. No evidence supports the claim of a long-term internet suspension in the CHT or anywhere else,” he said during a visit to a flood-affected area in Andharmanik, Feni district.
Nahid also said that he had consulted with Deputy Commissioners and other local officials, all of whom confirmed that no extensive internet outages had taken place.
He urged individuals making such assertions to verify facts with the relevant authorities before disseminating misinformation.
Addressing ongoing challenges in the CHT, Nahid Islam emphasized the need for domestic solutions to the region's longstanding internal issues.
Several advisers are scheduled to visit the area that day to assess the situation, he added.
Besides, he cautioned the public to remain vigilant against efforts aimed at destabilizing the country.
