DHAKA: Slightly less than a year after it launched the Galaxy S4 smartphone, Korean electronics giant Samsung has announced the follow-up, the Samsung Galaxy S5, at this year’s Mobile World Congress trade showcase.

Sporting a 5.1-inch display, quad core processor and a 16 megapixel camera, the Galaxy S5 is the company’s next flagship device and has several new features, including a built-in fingerprint sensor and a heart rate monitor, as well as being dust and water proof.

New camera features include a faster auto-focus, as well as a real time HDR camera that shows a rendering of a well-exposed subject matter before the photo is taken.

In traditional HDR implementation, multiple shots of a subject are taken at different exposures and combined to form on photograph after the shutter button has been pressed.

Like the Apple iPhone 5s, Samsung has also rolled out a fingerprint sensor housed within its Home button.

On top of securing files and folders behind a fingerprint, Samsung has also tied up with online bill payment service, Paypal, to enable secured fingerprint enabled bill payment services from the phone, reports The Straits Times.
