Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the ICT Division, said today (April 7) that the interim government is taking firm measures to prevent any future administration in Bangladesh from shutting down internet access.
He made the remarks while addressing the opening session of 'Bangladesh Startup Connect 2025' held at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka.
Taiyeb highlighted that the government aims to recognize internet access as a fundamental civic right in the country.
He also clarified that the existing NGSO (Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit) guidelines do not include any clauses permitting internet shutdowns.
Efforts are currently underway to revise contentious sections of the Telecommunications Act of 2001, he added, to ensure there is no legal basis for disconnecting internet services in the future.
The event was jointly organized by Startup Bangladesh Limited, the ICT Division, and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), focusing on the country’s growing startup landscape and its role in attracting global investment.
Among the panelists were Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and ICT Division Secretary and Chairman of Startup Bangladesh Limited Shish Haider Chowdhury.
