10 mbps broadband internet now at Tk 500: ISPAB

Broadband internet users in Bangladesh will now receive 10 Mbps — double the previous speed—for the same price of Tk 500, the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) announced today (April 19).

ISPAB President Md Emdadul Hoque made the declaration during a roundtable discussion on the state of internet services in the country, hosted by the Telecom and Technology Reporters Network, Bangladesh (TRNB) at the BTRC Auditorium in Dhaka’s Agargaon.

“Effective from today, users will receive 10 Mbps instead of 5 Mbps at Tk 500,” said Emdadul, reading from a prepared statement.

He added that with the right policy support from the government, the association is aiming to further raise the minimum broadband speed to 20 Mbps at the same price.

“To truly unlock the potential of digital connectivity, 20 Mbps should be the new baseline for broadband speed in the country,” Emdadul said.

To facilitate this growth, he urged the authorities to resume the licence upgrade process for ISPs equipped with modern infrastructure and to extend licence validity to 10 years to encourage greater investment.
