DHAKA: Root level members of the Bangladesh Police are being taken to the ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) Highway.

Sources said a training session is going on at Savar Model Thana auditorium on Sunday arranged by the Dhaka Range Police to make the department’s every member familiar to ICT.

Sources said the lower and middle strata of the department are attending the function.

Dhaka Superintendent of Police (SP) Habibur Rahman said this is the very first initiative in police department’s history.

He also said, “Techniques of crime are also being changed with the pace of time. Nowadays, cyber crimes are also included in the offense list. We, bring the root-level members of police as they can handle and take initiatives in this regard.”

Moreover, he added, after the training they will also be able to control traffics on the road over their smartphones, desktops or laptops from any where as well as at any time.

“They should be taught about ICT as police department has recently setup internet protocol camera on the highways to control traffic communication digitally,” he said.

However, the participants are also glad to be familiar with ICT.

Yakub Ali, one of the 30 participating constables from Savar, Ashulia and Dhamrai thanas, said that he, who bought a smartphone just to meet his keen interest but now able to monitor the traffic situation from a long distance.

Another trainee, Sub-Inspector Jibon Chandra Barman said that it could be more helpful if they got the training earlier.
