Govt asks for 17 Facebook users’ info

DHAKA: The government has asked for detailed information of 17 Bangladeshi Facebook users.

In this regard, the government has already told the social networking site authorities to disclose their identities with detail information.

Sources told banglanews that the government made the request in seven phases from January to June this year.

But, it could not be known whether the Facebook authorities have given the details or not, sources added.

On the other hand, the social networking site in a report published on their website said, “We respond to valid requests relating to criminal cases.”

It added: “Each and every request we receive is checked for legal sufficiency and we reject or require greater specificity on requests that are overly broad or vague.”
