FINLAND: Out with the bad one, in with the new one’– this phrase is what Nokia has been following these days.
They replaced their old CEO with one of Microsoft’s former President of the Business Software Group.
Stephen Elop, the new CEO, who replaced Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo in Nokia. Sad news for Kallasvuo, the guy will be losing his seat with effect from Sept. 20 – better for him to start looking for a new post elsewhere.
Generally speaking, Nokia is stranded midst some massive market related problems. The company needs a savior, who’ll possibly set the whole business in the right direction.
Nokia once used to be a market leader, the goliath against Apple, RIM and Google. Someone, at the upper ranks in Nokia didn’t have enough vision and the whole company lacked because of that very person. Or maybe it could be a group of people, but what’s done is done.
Right now, even a menial company like RIM is capable of posing enough threat to Nokia. So we can say that with Elop, Nokia has a lot of expectancy tied up. Elop could possibly be the man to change the course of events for the cellular ‘giant’.
And let’s be honest, Nokia doesn’t deserve what “Palm” has gone through. We all love Nokia and those of us, who don’t love the company – at least they don’t hate it either.
We’re hoping that Elop’s degrees, credentials and software expertise will bring something new to Nokia. Something that would jumble up both hardware and software aspects of Nokia and make it the same old contender, the way it used to be in the past.
