Seminar on cyber defense held

DHAKA: A seminar on Cyber Security defense was held Thursday (May 5) at the auditorium of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) at Mirpur in the capital.

The theme of the seminar was ‘Cyber Defense: Don’t wait to be breached, know your risks!”. 

It was jointly organized by Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Forum Bangladesh, and BIBM.

The seminar was specially designed for the C-Level executives, technical professionals from financial institute to shared the latest state of cyber security and its defense to practice.

The welcome speech was delivered by Tapan Kanti Sarkar, Founder President ,CTO Forum Bangladesh while Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Subhankar Saha was present as chief guest and BIBM Director General Toufic Ahmad Chowdhury in  chair.

Addressing the session as chief guest, Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Subhankar Saha said, Information and the internet  connect people, communities, government and businesses globally where security is a threat. And we need to protect the security and integrity of this information for what information and awareness is common. This seminar is such one and I would like to express my gratitude to Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management, CTO Forum, Bangladesh and FireEye for arranging the seminar at a time when the banking industry not only in Bangladesh but also in whole world is going through a transitional phase of broadening, deepening and strengthening the financial services available to the masses.

Bringing the importance of cyber security for financial institute, CTO Forum President Tapan Kanti Sarkar said, Handling Cyber Space is a critical business for that we must be prepared and be better educated. There is a need to overhaul IT education, impart domain knowledge at the school levels, and consistently provide the security services confidently to public and private entities with integrity, professionalism, and proficiency. Awareness education comes in the first order. More we need to know the details about the cyber defense – what we need to do ‘Before’, ‘During’ and ‘After’ an incident, the authentication, fraud detection system, and others and this arrangements is such one to get knowledge and share experience.  

Security Expert Steven D’Sa share his experience as an expert and share the know hows of cyber defense in his speech. 

BIBM Director General Toufic Ahmad Chowdhury said as per my understanding the profile of the todays speakers as security expert  , I do believe that the deliberation in the seminar are beneficial to the participants in gaining detailed understanding of the potential environmental risk such as viruses, hackers natural disaster etc.

A panel discussion was also took place soon after the session and the discussion was moderated by Tapan Kanti Sarkar. 

S A Chowdhury, A K Gangopadhaya Chair professor, BIBM was the chair of the discussion. S M Mainuddin Chowdhuy , Deputy Managing Director, South East Bank Ltd. Mohammad Ali, Deputy Managing Director, Pubali Bank Ltd, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Associate Professor, BIBM, Security Expert Steven D’Sa , Steve Ledzian & Subhendu Sahu were present at session panelist.

The experts in banking and security field focused on capacity of financial institute to defense cyber threat as well as skilled human resources to overcome the challenges. Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director, Head of Information Technology, Chief Risk Officer from different banks and financial institutions attended the seminar.
