DHAKA: Banglalink, one of the largest mobile telecom operators of the country, has officially launched 3G on test demonstrating the services in real time.
The telecom operator also introduced the 3G service in October this year.
Chief executive officer of Banglalink Ziad Shatara launched the service at a press conference in a city hotel on Wednesday.
The service will be provided in Chittagong, Khulna, and Sylhet after Dhaka within 2013 which will be extended to rest parts of the country gradually.
Mentioning that Banglalink will invest $300 millions to provide 3G service, he also said, “Existing receivers of our service do not have to buy new SIM cards to move to 3G technology.”
Deputy CEO and Group Chief Operating Officer of Vimpelcom Limited Jan Edvard Thygesen, Chief commercial officer Shihab Ahmed, marketing director Solaiman Alam and regulatory affairs director Zakiul Islam were among others present on the occasion.
Banglalink bought 5MHz of 3G spectrum from an auction arranged by BTRC on September 8. The 3G service will help operators provide their users different services including high speed wireless internet, TV output and video conference.
Banglalink is a key subsidiary of Vimpelcom Limited, the 6th largest telecom group in the world that provides a range of integrated telecommunications services, and having operations in major markets across Asia, Africa, Europe and North America.
