DHAKA: Country’s the largest private mobile phone operator GrameenPhone (GP) Limited launched third generation of mobile communication technology 3G on Sunday.
Tele-Communications Minister Sahara Khatun inaugurated GrameenPhone 3G service at GrameenPhone’s main corporate office GP house in the capital.
After the inauguration Sahara Khatun talked with GrameenPhone Chief Technology Officer Tanvir Mohammad through video call.
GP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vivek Sood said, “GrameenPhone workers and friends of GP house and subscribers of adjacent areas will come in the arena of 3G network from Sunday.”
Telenor Group CEO Fredrick Baksaas, Tele communication secretary Abu Bakar Siddik and BTRC acting Chairman Abdus Samad also delivered their speech in the program.
Tele-Communications Minister urged GrameenPhone authority to serve such type service through which villagers would be benefited.
She also hopes that through the technology, youths will come forward to strengthen the position of Bangladesh in technology and information world.
Fredrick Baksaas said that GrameenPhone and Telenor a development partner for 16-year. He hopes that the 3G technology will play a vital role in the economical development in the country.”
At the September 8 auction, GP acquired 10MHz of spectrum for $221m while the other three operators Robi, Airtel and Banglalink bought 5MHz each.
