Construction of RNPP to be completed in due time

DHAKA: Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafes Osman said that the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant (RNPP) is proceeding with giving utmost importance to its security. The project will be completed within the stipulated time.

He said this after attending a training workshop on Regional Meeting on the Measurement and Assessment of Integrated Management Systems Youth Regulatory Bodies at the BRAC Center on Friday (September 6).

Representatives from Canada, Austria, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in this five-day training workshop from September 2 to 6.

The workshop was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Authority and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

As the chief guest at the closing ceremony, Architect Yafes Osman said that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the Rooppur nuclear power plant. As per the deadline, the work of the project is moving forward. Hopefully, this project will be completed on time. 

“Russia will boost the required specialist manpower on the project this year. In Russia, the manufacturing of machinery of the project is also in progress. We have witnessed this activity during Russia visit. There is quality work going on. Machinery is also being manufactured for India at the same factory. We also talked to them”.

“I firmly believe that Bangladesh is going to get a suitable and high quality nuclear power plant”, the minister added.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the workshop, Yafes Osman said that the safety aspect of the technology is challenging. The technology must be taken forward without overcoming this challenge. Training workshops are very important for this.

“The future of the sector will be enriched by the design, commissioning, security, management, quality improvement of the nuclear power plant. The technical aspect is important to make its activities dynamic. With this, the bright potential of this technology has to be accelerated”.

Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Mahbubul Haque said, "Experience through this training workshop will play an important role in field-level work. Such workshops have been arranged putting emphasis on acquiring experience.
