A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed two fraudsters on a three-day remand in a case filed for demanding extortion to various people and organisations by spoofing mobile number of Jubo League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash.
The court passed the order after police produced fraudsters Firoz Khandaker and Rakaibul before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam with the remand prayer for gleaning more information.
Earlier in the morning, members of cyber-crime unit arrested them from Faridpur.
On October 15, Barrister Rana Tazudding Khan filed a case with Banani Police Station under section 24 and 26 of Digital Security Act on behalf of Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash.
Rana Tajuddin Khan said he filed the case after some incidents of spoofing the mobile number of the Jubo League chairman and demanding money from various people including administrative officials and political figures.
Sources said that before his arrest, Firoz Khandaker had realized lakhs of taka by cheating people through call spoofing, also known as caller ID spoofing.
