Major killing incidents in 2013

DHAKA: The year ‘2013’ was a year of ups and downs. A plenty of murder incidents took place in that year.

Let us have a look in some of major killings committed in 2013:

Blogger Rajib murder:

Ahmed Rajib Haider was a prominent atheist anti-Islamic blogger in Bangladesh, who was killed by miscreants while he was leaving his house in the Mirpur area of the capital on the night of February 15, 2013.

His mutilated body was found lying in a pool of blood from the area.


Toki’s murder:

A teenage boy Tanvir Mohammad Toki, son of Narayanganj Gonojagoron Mancha Convener Md Rafiur Rabbi, was found dead two days after he had been missing on March 08, 2013.

Toki’s floating body was recovered from the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj.

The boy was a student of ABC International School in Nrayanganj city and had completed his ‘A’ level with impressive scores.


Actress Mita Noor found dead:

Popular television actress Sabina Yasmin Mita Noor was found dead at her Gulshan residence in the capital at the morning of July 01, 2013.

Police recovered the hanging body of the 42-year-old TV star from the ceiling fan with a scarf at the drawing room of her house where she lived with her husband, Shahanur Rahman Majumder, a businessman, and two sons.

According to police inquest report, injury marks were found at different points of her body.


Milki killing:

Juba League leader Riazuddin Khan Milki was shot dead by a gang of miscreants on 30 July, 2013.

Milky, 43, organizing secretary of Dhaka city (south) unit of Juba League, the ruling party’s youth wing, was gunned down on the street in the capital’s Gulshan area in the early hours of July 30.


SB officer & wife killed, daughter Oishee held:

Police recovered the bodies of Special Branch (SB) Inspector Mahfujul Haque, 48, and his wife Sapna Begum, 40, from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital on August 16, 2013.

The 17-year old daughter of the couple, Oishee Rahman confessed in her statement that she had alone killed her parents as she was obstructed to her freedom by her parents.

DB officials said that before killing the couple at deep of night of August 14, Oishee fed seven sedative tablets to her parents along with coffee.

Ex-police super shot dead in city:

Some unidentified miscreants shot dead former additional Police
Superintendent Fazlul Karim, 67, at his residence in Rampura of the capital at the morning of August 29, 2013.

Fazlul Karim who retired about five years ago, was Additional Police Super of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).


Madrasa explosion kills 3 in Ctg:

Three students died after the Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Madrasa blast incident at Lalkhan Bazar of the port city Chittagong.

A massive explosion rocked the Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Madrasa run by the senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Hefajat-e-Islam Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury at Lalkhan Bazar, On October 7, 2013.


Four of a family killed in Sylhet:

Four people of a family were chopped to death at Laxanaband union under Golapganj upazila of Sylhet division by addicted family person on November 23, 2013.

The victims were identified as killer’s mother Shamsunnahar, 55, sister Mariam, 22, son Tanvir, 3 and a relative.

Killer’s father Abdul Aziz said killer Abdus Salam Furuk was addicted for last few days and in the afternoon he killed his family members for unknown reason.


ASI killed by his wife:

A police man was allegedly killed by his wife in capital’s Mirpur area on December 15, 2013.

The deceased was identified as Humayan Kabir, 30, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Shah Ali Thana, son of Yosuf Hossain hailed from Fulbaria of Mymensingh.


Six-murder in city’s Gopibagh:

Six people were hacked to death by miscreants at a house in
Gopibagh area under Wari Thana of the capital at evening on December 21, 2013.

The elderly man was identified as Lutfur Rahman Faruk, 60, who used to introduce himself as a ‘pir’ (saint). The other victims were Monir Hossain, son of Faruk, Manju, caretaker of the house, and Faruk’s followers--Shaheen, Rasel, and Mojibur Rahman.


Photojournalist Aftab Ahmed murder:

A veteran photo journalist was found dead at his house in the capital`s West Rampura on December 25, 2013.

Police sources said, when police recovered the body of 79-year old Aftab Ahmed in the morning, his hands and legs were tied up and a gag was wrapped around his mouth.
