DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami captured 18 posts of upazila chairmen in those districts, where violence and vandalism took place before and after the tenth parliamentary election.
Jamaat supported candidates also did well in those districts where violence happened more protesting the verdict against Delwar Hossain Sayeede and Quader Molla.
It means that this party has performed well in the northern region, Khulna, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions. Out of these areas this anti-liberation party did not get a single post in Dhaka division except one post in Barisal division.
Jamaat won the posts of 33 chairmen in 18 districts. In the post of winning spree of vice chairman race their result is more enviable. They have won 109 men vice chairmen and 31 women vice chairmen posts.
According to the analysis of Election Commission till third phase upazila polls, the party got 5.36 percent votes. In the post of vice chairman they did well in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna divisions.
Jamaat supported candidates also won the leading leaders seats of Awami League. The Jamaat supported chairmen candidates have won in Golapganj of Sylhet, constituency of education minister, Atghoria of Pabna, the area of state minister of Land and former state minister of home, Santhia of Pabna.
The biggest surprise is that they have captured 5 chairmen posts out of 11 upazillas in Bogra districts.
Jamaat candidates won in 19 upazillas in the northern districts, however, they did not get a single post in the 31 chairmen posts in the southern areas. On the other hand, in Khulna region, out of 53 upazillas in 9 districts they got only 5 posts.
Polls analysts say that as there was no analysis in alliance and grand alliance being it as a local government election and Jamaat has tactfully utilized the situation.
This created because of the internal conflicts, weakness of selection process. Furthermore the rebel candidates of both Awami League and BNP led the situation in favor of Jamaat.
There are many analyses about Jamaat’s success which got only 4 percent vote in the last 2008 parliamentary election. Critical analysis is on about the party when most of its district and upazila level leaders are either in custody or in hiding. Some of them have also been elected from prison. And some got elected being in hiding.
In the analysis it was found that in 18 districts Jamaat did better than Awami League and BNP.
Upazillas where the Jamaat supported candidates won:
Chittagong division: Fariduddin Khan, Lohagara, principal Jahirul Islam, Banshkhali, Muhammad Jasimuddin Khan(from jail), Satkania, Naikhangchari of Bandarban professor Tofael Ahmed(from prison) were elected.
Rangpur division: Shafiullah, Boda (Panchagarh), Syed Ali, Jaldhaka (Nilphamari), Golam Rabbani, Mithapukur (Rangpur), Abdul Ghani, Dupchachaia (Bogra), Nurul Islam Mondol, Nandigram (Bogra), Dabibur Rahman, Sherpur (Bogra), Tayeb Ali (Kahalu), ANM Alamgir Hossain, Shibganj, Md. Aftabuddin Molla, Chirirbandar, Nure Alom Siddiky, Nababganj, Mowlana Nazrul Islam, Polasbari, Abdul Karim, Gaibandha Sadar, Saidur Rahman, Sadullahpur.
Rajshahi division: Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Chapainababganj Sadar, Md. Keramat Ali, Shibganj, Md. Abdur Rashid, Manda, Md. Moinuddin, Dhamoirhat, Mokhlesur Rahman, Santhia, Jahurul Islam, Atgharia, Jinnat Ali, Bagha of Rajshahi, Mostafijur Rahman, Panchbibi.
Khulna division: Tamijuddin, Koira, Abdul Bari, Shayamnagar, Tazul Islam, Kotchandpur aand Abdul Hye, Mohesshpur, Azizur Rahman, Damurhuda.
Sylhet division: Nazmul Islam, Golapganj, and zainal Abedin, Jaintapur.
Barisal division: In this division Masud Sayeede, son of death penalty awarded war crime convict Delwar Hossain Sayeede, was elected in Zianagar upazilla of Pirojpur.
According to the analysts Jamaat has won in this election by utilizing its organizational strength which could not be done by the big parties.
On next 5th phase upazilla polls Jamaat has nominated 16 chairmen, 53 vice chairmen and 16 women vice chairmen candidates in 75 upazilas.
