Bangabandhu was there in yesteryears, he is very much present among Bangladeshis everywhere today and he will remain forever. Immortal souls never disappear. They always encourage and inspire even from behind the scene.
Forty years have gone by. Ungrateful Bangladeshi criminals brutally murdered the dreamer and architect of Bangladeshi nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Last evening in Melbourne thousands of kilometers away from where the great soul is having his eternal rest was remembered with deep respect by a host of his blessed countrymen. Children of Bangladeshi origin wrote and recited self-composed write-ups and poems, valiant freedom fighters of 1971 fondly remembered the memories of the great man. Bangabandhu Porishod Melbourne in a simple but dignified event paid rich tributes to the immortal memory of a person whose life was all but struggle for creating a nationhood Bangladesh and Bangladeshi.
It was Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who could say, “I do not want to be Prime Minister, I want the freedom of my people.” It was he who could utter, “We have learnt to shed blood, we will give more blood, but we will emancipate the people of Bengal. Who else could recite the immortal poem “If I cannot order, get ready with whatever you have. Make every house a fortress, you have to encounter the enemies.” He went on, “The struggle this time is the struggle for freedom, struggle this time is the struggle for independence.” What else was left after his historic epic poem recitation on March 7, 1971 for bringing a nation to war?
Yet he set everything in order. He had to wait for enemy to strike to avoid being branded secessionist. He declared the commencement of liberation war immediately after the launching of the “Operation Searchlight” by occupation Pakistan Army which was later echoed by many, including one Major Zia, from Kalurghat Biplobi Bangladesh Betar Kendra.
Melbourne living Bangladeshis under the banner of Bangabandhu Porishod arranged a simple gathering of Bangladeshi community on the evening of August 15 2015 at Flemington Community Centre. About 200 Bangladeshis Liberation war heroes, accomplished Bangladeshis from all walks of life, toddlers assembled to sing for the greatest of Bangladeshi ever born. His immortal lifelong contribution was remembered. The brutal events of butchering his along with most of his family members were condemned.
BBP could rekindle the immortal memory of Bangabandhu. It could create appetite among the new generation for learning about Bangabandhu. His life and living.
A teenager Tanjura Rahman wrote, “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a charismatic leader who organized dissent and rebellion against the British in India, he led the Bengalis of East Pakistan in their resistance to the unjust actions of post-colonial Pakistan Government, he then lastly helped found the independent nation of Bangladesh in 1971. She went on writing, “A charismatic leader, Bangabandhu epitomized anti-colonial leadership in the third World.”
Rididita Kundu, Tanzeel Khan, Saliha Khan Nazeeba Binte Alam all wrote epic pieces and recited eloquently about the Father of Bangladeshis nation.
Nazeeba wrote, “Bangabandhu was born in a middle class Bengali family. He grew up rural amongst rivers, trees, bird songs. He was lanky, yet played football. He liked to eat plain rice, fish, vegetables, milk, bananas and sweets. His care and concern for classmates, friends and others was well-known. He gave away his tiffin to the hungry, clothes to the poor, books to the needy and other personal belongings to the poor. One day, he gave his clothes to a poor boy and came home in his shawl. He was blessed from his boyhood with leadership and courage. His dedication to our country Bangladesh cannot be repaid by any means.”
Three surviving brave freedom fighters talked emotionally about Bangabandhu. They remembered of the darkest night of Bangladeshis life. They mentioned about ongoing conspiracies by vested quarter in Bangladesh and abroad against Bangladeshis. The gathering was told that it was his fortitude and courage that could make India withdraw its forces from liberated Bangladesh within months. Bangabandhu initiated the nation rebuilding process virtually from ruins.
Strongest western powers American Government, China and Middle East abetted Pakistan in the genocide in Bangladesh. They kept on encouraging the anti-liberation forces, defeated elements for destabilizing the newborn nation. The conspirators could finally strike deadly blows on the fate of the nation. Bangabandhu along with the next of his kins were murdered brutally on the darkest night of August 15, 1975.
After 40 years of Bangabandhu assassination Bangladesh is bouncing back. The economy is on the rise. All economic indices are showing great positives. The nation is on the purple path of self-reliance. Achieving 6% plus consistent GDP growth despite of regular visits of natural calamity and global recession is a huge achievement.
Bangladesh Cricket team is showing the way. They are rocking and rolling. The way Bangladesh Cricket team ably led by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza came into reference yesterday. The success of Bengal tigers is transcending on every sphere of national life. The way cricket is uniting Bangladesh nation was proudly remembered. Bengal tigers knocked English lions out of world Cup, it white washed Pakistan in ODI series, defeated strong India (avenged the world cup defeat), beat strong South Africa and is now waiting to confront Australia. New generation Bangladeshi Cricketers have developed “Can Do” confidence among Bangladeshis.
Bangladeshi community was advised to remain alert against all conspiracies. The community expressed their deep resolve to stand solidly behind the nation building efforts of Bangladesh Government. Every person present in one word strongly supported the war criminals trial process and also pledged to contribute as much as they can for the advancement of Bangladesh image among the world community.
Everyone realized that Bangabandhu continues to remain “the inspiration” behind all good creation and achievement of Bangladesh. Everyone realized that his image is getting bigger and brighter as Bangladesh has just started making giant steps towards self-reliance. The nation is beholding the vision 2021 for becoming the mid income country, the vision 2040 for becoming the developed economy.
Even the occupation forces did not dare to kill Bangabandhu. But a host of Bangladeshi traitors did and yet another group of ungrateful Bangladeshis shamelessly celebrate the fake birthday of their leader on the National Mourning Day.
BBP initiative stirred the imagination of Bangladeshi community in Melbourne that “The independence earned with blood and sweat has to be cosseted and preserved with unity and solidarity.
I have taken my hats off to the great efforts of BBP. BBP please Keep going, keep endeavoring for strengthening the unity platform of Bangladeshis in Melbourne, Victoria and beyond.
