TEA HEAVEN RESORT (SREEMANGAL): Dhaka University Tourism and Hotel Management Department Professor Rashedul Hasan said Sylhet is a strangely beautiful place, this place is unique, but we must be aware not to destroy the environment while visiting here.
He said the theme of sustainable tourism is I will let the next generation enjoy the same beauty of a tourist spot I enjoyed. “We must keep that in mind.”
Mentioning that there are 411 haors in Bangladesh, he said he doesn’t know whether there is any other Haor in the world as big as Tanguar Haor.
He also proposed to introduce two seasons of tourism in winter and in rainy seasons centering Tanguar Haor.
Professor Rashedul also termed Sylhet as “multiple destination of multiple activities”.
Sylhet Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Civil Engineering Department professor Dr. Jahir Bin Alam emphasized about developing road and rail communication between Sylhet and other parts of the world to attract more tourists to visit Sylhet.
He also asked the authorities to use local people and local resources in the developmental tasks related to tourism.
Dr. Jahir also asked to construct museum to make people introduced with local cultures and traditions.
Essays on tourism have to be included in the textbooks in primary and secondary level so that students can grow up with knowledge about and attraction to tourism.
Udayan Girls High School headmistress Kabita Das came up with the opinion while addressing the specialists’ meeting.
She further said this also would make children’s inclination towards eco-friendly approaches.
Wild life researcher and photographer Tania Khan put emphasis on saving wild life and forest resources while developing tourism sector.
She said, “We won’t see wild hens, and cocks and entellus monkey if we destroy forests in the name of expanding rail tracks”.
We must save wild lives and forests which, in the final analysis, will help develop country’s tourism sector.
Wild life researcher Shahriar Sizar Rahman also put emphasis on keeping the equilibrium of biodiversity for any development works otherwise it won’t be sustainable.

The specialists begin their discussion about the problems and prosperity of tourism sector in Sylhet division at Tea Heaven Resort in Sreemangal around 9:30am Friday (July 22).
