KHAGRACHHARI: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khagrachhari district opined that coordinated efforts are essential in flourishing tourism in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) areas.
DC Muhammad Wahiduzzuman also put emphasis on formation of a committee involving people of all professional groups and unity between ethnic minorities and Bangali people in this regard.
He further said first of all, communication and infrastructural development are needed for tourism.
Wahiduzzaman made the assertion in an interview with banglanews team on Friday (August 19) at his bungalow.
He said that though tourism sector belongs to Parbatya Zila Parishad or Hill District Council, a coordinated effort is needed involving people of all walks of life. “Many sectors are engaged for the development of tourism.”
According to the DC, tourism in Khagrachhari is in primary stage. Development in communication and transport sectors, security for tourists, accommodation, uncut power supply are needed for the development of tourism.
“Coordination between the development projects of several government wings is also essential for tourism.”
“Development of tourist spots in Khagrachhaari is needed. Ethnic groups are welcoming tourists here. They are establishing business in tourist spots. It has played an important role in expanding tourism as well as providing security for tourists.”
The DC asserted that when tourists go to a place, they think about security first, then transportation and accommodation. “So, we should ensure these three facilities for the sake of tourism.”
“The government has taken several development projects for Khagrachhari district. By this time, Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) is implementing a development project worth of taka several crores in Alutila tourist spot.”
The tourist spots in Khagrachhari include mysterious cave at Alutila, Richhang Waterfall and Panchhari Aranya Kutir. Moreover, tourists use Khagrachhari for going to Sajek tourist spot of Rangamati district. The DC reiterated government’s initiatives for the development of tourist spots and solving the problems of tourists.
