DHAKA: The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Wednesday urged the government to release FBCCI former president Abdul Aowal Mintu.

FBCCI president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed made the plea while talking to journalists after an emergency meeting of the organization in the afternoon.

He said, “Abdul Aowal Mintu is a businessman. He is chairman of a business group. We are worried after his arrest. We want him immediate release.”

The leader of the business community also urged opposition parties to stop hartal for the sake of country’s economy.

On Friday night, law enforcers arrested Abdul Aowal Mintu.
